Naomi Johnson Photography  > Documentary > Documentary: The Collateral Damage Project: Rusul Arrives
In times of war, we often hear the term "collateral damage" used to describe the unintended victims of military actions. This project aims to put a human face on that term. Seven-year-old Rusul Jalal was badly injured two years ago in a US air strike near her home in Iraq. Her brother was killed in the attack, and her older sister Sallee lost both her legs. Rusul has been brought to the US for medical treatment by the grassroots nonprofit No More Victims http://nomorevictims.org. The plan is that she will have her foot amputated and be fitted with a prosthesis at the Shriners Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina http://www.shrinershq.org/Hospitals/Greenville/. Rusul arrived at the Greenville airport July 10, 2008. (To see a full-screen slideshow, click the button at upper right.)
